[It's been a good week or so since Kirk and Vander last talked with each other. Things seem to be quiet. Maybe too quiet. So Kirk takes his chances with a simple message]

Yeah, it seems like the other side decided to abort theft for now. Just working on settling the mud wasps that had been stirred up because of it.

How are you doing, Kirk?

[He means himself and Silco. No one else seems particularly upset on their side.]

[cantilevers]

Considering the apparent peace of this place, I happen to agree. There is nothing quite like preparing for a future fight.

[He had prepared a lot for many fights, gotten soft in the child-rearing years and now seemed to be back where he was before. Surely that was a sign.]

You consider us good then? You'll give me a heads up on rumblings from your side?

[godsandbats]

I've been okay. Do you need any help?

[Based on when they last talked, Kirk got the impression it wasn't a minor tiff]

[leastdramatic]

[Jason nods as he finishes his tumbler]

I'm good if you're good too. We'll try to keep each other in the loop.

For the time being, just asking you about their dynamic was helpful. I think I have it handled for the time being. Hopefully the kid learned something.

Hopefully.

[Kirk doesn't know what the deal is with Damian but the kid is clearly not normal]

I'm glad things calmed down for you

[cantilevers]

[He nodded his head, making a point of downing the last of his whiskey and tapping the bottom of the glass on the table.]

Call me if you need anything, alright?

[cantilevers]

For now. I don't actually believe fifteen-year-olds actually listen to reason. I know my fourteen-year-old didn't. Time will tell.

[He would involve Kirk if he needed to, but he didn't want to strain this relationship either.]

Do the other people from similar worlds as yours not like you and Hernan?

[godsandbats]

I don't know if they're all like that but apparently, who or what we are generates distrust from some of them. Damian threatened Hernan because he believes someone with Hernan's abilities has the potential of being dangerous.

For me, I share the same moniker as someone Damian knows. But I suspect it's not just because of that. He already knew my name. There's at least one alternate of me that mutated into a giant bat. Perhaps that Kirk Langstrom is from his world.

[Basically, Kirk and Hernan have not had the best interactions with Damian]

[leastdramatic]

[Jason starts to get up]

I hope I'm allowed to drop by again.

[cantilevers]

This is a public bar. It's up to the owner to reject you. I serve anyone that behaves themselves.

[He smirked.]

Yeah well, there seems to be a common theme with that kid interpreting danger in people and objects and acting on his own to burn bridges. Maybe the kid won't learn a lesson this time if his reasoning remains the same between the two incidences.

This kid seems intent on neutralizing perceived threats, yet I don't see him going off against some of the other big guns around these parts.

It's crappy you and Hernan have been put in such a position. Both of you are good guys in my book.

[leastdramatic]

Heh. Good to know. Despite what some might say, I know how to behave in a bar.

[It's more of a matter if he chooses to behave]

Well, sometimes that's no fun. I've misbehaved in a bar plenty of times. Just, don't do it on my shift. I'd hate to have to throw you out.

[His smile indicated that he didn't have plans in doing so.]

I can't say I entirely understand what his thinking is.

We're used to people not liking us. It's fine. Usually it's because they think we're monsters who want to be gods

He's a kid who clearly doesn't know boundaries. That comes with terrible repercussions I suppose.

That's very isolating. I hope you two don't feel that way here as much as back home. You know I'll defend you both, right?

[godsandbats]

We know. I don't doubt how much you care.

[Whatever doubts Kirk did have evaporated after Vander very thorough showed how much he cared last time they met]

Here isn't like back home. Back home, we learned to be used to people protesting outside of the tower and the government barely tolerating us working with them. It was only recently that the Justice League's public reputation improved.

Good. You're a good friend of mine, and I protect my friends.

[He found intense value providing for Kirk, to show his care and respect for the man. They were not similar in many aspects, and perhaps that was why they worked.]

And here? People seem to be busied with their own affairs and take less notice of you and Hernan.

[godsandbats]

Which is fine by us. There isn't a need to play the some kind of politics as we had to back home

[cantilevers]

I suppose that means that you feel more comfortable here than back home, yeah? And besides, you could meet someone that could help with a cure. That would be exciting.

I'd still let you bite me after that though. That's what friends do.

[godsandbats]

A cure is what I'm hoping for while I'm here. Since I don't know how long I'll be here, I might as well make it a productive stay

You're always welcome to tell me if you don't want me to bite anymore.

[That is still one perpetuating concern Kirk has. It's the most risky behavior they engage in together as it's one that so far, doesn't really have safeguards. It hinges on if Vander can protest quick enough or if Kirk can stop himself quick enough]

I won't be any help with you on that fact, but if you never need items to be smuggled, foraged, and traded for, I'll do whatever I can. And we'll build this confidence of yours too.

I know. I never doubted it. I trust in you.

[Vander wasn't worried, and it had occurred to him that he should be. It was telling, wasn't it? That he would take this risk over and over again and trust in Kirk's control and his uncaring about aspects of his own well-being.]

[godsandbats]

I'll keep that in mind.

[Knowing someone who knew how to smuggle could be useful, particularly during a mission. As for the biting though, Kirk has his doubts on if it's a wise move for Vander to have an unshakeable faith in his self-control. Kirk doesn't have much faith in himself.]

Thank you. But do whatever you can if you think I need to be stopped.

Do you honestly believe that I have the strength to stop you if you lose control?

[He didn't have the impression that Kirk could be reasoned with in such a state. It's why he continually volunteered so it didn't reach that point.]
